Wayuu

A collection of images from a week spent living in an indigenous community in La Guajira, Colombia. This was some of the most uncomfortable conditions I’ve worked in. We slept on hammocks outside and were often woken up by petroleum smugglers driving through the desert town at night.

La Republica Dominicana

This place is where my passion for storytelling and photography was born. Traveling with BLUE Missions through the rural countryside towns allowed me to meet the most beautiful, generous people. I’m inspired by the bright colors and smiles contrasted against the high poverty rate. Much of my work here documents the impact of clean water access.

Campo Quinces

For hispanic families, when a girl turns 15 it’s a big deal. It’s usually marked with a big celebration and an over the top photoshoot fit for a Disney princess. I was staying with a family in a very rural home only accessible by foot. The oldest daughter, Sugeiry, told me her 15th birthday was coming up. I asked her if she wanted pictures, and her shyness slipped away long enough for her to give me an enthusiastic “yes”. Given that we had camera and lighting equipment, I thought, we can really do something special for this girl. As the sun was setting, she came out in a beautiful dress and posed against the background of her beautiful tropical village. She later received an album of the printed pictures.

Besitos

It was the way she covered her squishy baby in kisses. They looked like they could just melt into each other, these two lives conjoined by unconditional love.

She seemed not the least bit stressed by motherhood, no, she was thriving, even glowing.

I asked her how she makes it look so easy and she said…

Corona de Cayenas

Mi Escuelita

A collection of images from colorful Caribbean classrooms.

South East Asia

Ay, Mi Cuba

A collection of images from a week spent in Cuba with the CubaOne artist exchange program. This experience was very special to me because it was my first time visiting the country my family was forced to flee in the 60s.
